Outline

1. Purposes:

The Society for Antibacterial and Antifungal Agents, Japan aims to establish global research activities by joining interdisciplinary researchers and technical experts to prevent microorganisms in clothing, food, housing and their related industries as well as to prevent damage caused by microorganism-derived substances, thus contributing to the scientific, industrial and social development.

2. Activities:

  1. Publication of academic journals and technical books
    - Monthly official journal "Journal of Antibacterial and Antifungal Agents" in Japanese with abstracts in English, 12 issues per annum (each 3,000 copies)
    - Quarterly "Biocontrol Science" in English, 4 issues per annum (each 600 copies),and
    - "Proceedings of Annual/General Conference", 1 issue per annum (2,000 issues)
  2. Holding of conferences, academic symposia and research meetings
    • Research Conferences and Academic Symposia
      "Annual General Conference", "Workshop of experimental microbiology (Elementary course)", "Symposium on GMP and Validation" and "Research meeting by women researchers"
    • Research Groups
      "Research groups for control system of microorganisms"
  3. Encouragement of Researches and Awards of Academic Achievements
    "Society Award", "Research Encouragement Prize", "Technical Development Prize", "Academic Paper Prize", "Achievement Award" and "Award for the Scholarly and Management Activities to the Society".

May 29, 1973
Launched as "Research Committee of Antibacterial and Antifungal Agents"
August 10, 1973
First issue of an official journal "Bokin Bobai" was published
June 13, 1974
First annual meeting and general conference was held.
May 23, 1975
Name of the society was changed to "The Society for Antibacterial and Antifungal Agents, Japan".
January, 1976
Official journal has been published monthly, 12 issues per annum.
